My bf's mom puts out a jar of cider vinegar, puts lid on with wholes in top just big enough for flies to get in. They go in and then can't get out. Works for gnats too. On a similar note, Take a small jar, add about an inch of water and a quarter cup of sugar. Then set a funnel on the top. The sugar water attracts all manner of flying things, and once they get into the water, they can't get back out through the funnel's opening. I have heard you can spray them with a mixture of water and dishsoap, which makes them unable to fly cuz their wings stick to their body, then kill em. I saw this on a T.V. show called how clean is your house. It's an English show and all they did was take a long strip of sticky tape fold over a little at the top tape it to the window. Then they put a dab of honey down the center and hang it to the window. They fly to the honey and get stuck on the tape. It worked fast. Hope one of these works for you.

Open your windows in order to make some air currents, they don't like them at all. Try to find the source, I remember that one of my cats had brought a mouse in the kitchen, under a furniture... -_-'' Put some adhesive strips on the windows. (edit: mouse instead of smile, sorry ^^)

Flies are attracted to pools of water and bright lights. Do not leave water lying around, such as a drip on the sink or a leak. Call an exterminator or get some fly swatters.

Bug foggers work pretty good too. I used some a few months ago to get rid of moths, flies and gnats. Moths came back, but flies and gnats where gone for good. They have the kind of foggers now that don't stink as bad and don't leave a residue everywhere.
