  • It depends on what you're looking for. I'm a computer geek so my favorites tend to lean that way: Great security blog - http://www.schneier.com/blog/ As they say, news for nerds - http://slashdot.org/ If you're a longsuffering tech or admin you will pick up tips for torturing users. If you're a user, you'll learn never to call your longsuffering tech or admin - http://www.theregister.co.uk/odds/bofh/ A chronicle of one man's stupidity - http://chroniclesofgeorge.nanc.com/index.htm My favorite webcomic - http://xkcd.com/ My favorite comic from my favorite webcomic - http://xkcd.com/c149.html Lots of odd little tidbits, projects, and advice - http://lifehacker.com/ Hours of labeling fun (see image) - http://www.warninglabelgenerator.com/ Fantastic pictures of the sun - http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/ An amazing puzzle game that takes 12 weeks to complete - http://www.beholder.co.uk/planetarium/ Sad or cheerful or heartfelt but always voyeuristic - http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ All the things I will never do when I become an evil overlord - http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/overlord.html
  • Try googling "most useful websites" or some other adjectives. Most of the major computer sites/magazines, like znet.com and familypc.com yearly post a comprehensive list you may find helpful.
  • Wikipedia (An extremely comprehensive online encyclopedia that YOU CAN EDIT!!!) leoslyrics.com (A lyrics site that has I think more than million different song lyrics, and some interesting forums.) Google ('Nuff said.) dubyaspeak.com (Chronicling all of George W. Bush's misstatements - hilarious.) engrish.com (A site that has photos of things in Asian countries that have poorly translated English writing - also hilarious.) allmusicguide.com (Top notch reviews of artists, albums and songs, though the search function's gone kaput for some reason of late.) mail.com (Free mail box with choices of domain names - mine's munich.com .) amazon.com (For LimeWire buffs this gives the track listings for A LOT of albums, as well as user-reviews of each album.) imdb.com (If you're looking for information pertaining to someone involved in the film industry, a film or television show, this site will have it.) I'm probably missing some, but these are my favourites.

  • I can't believe nobody gave MetaFilter as an answer. MetaFilter bills itself as a community weblog. The Ask MeFi portion of the site is just a long list of questions, which can be expanded to read the answers. I don't contribute to the site, so I'm not sure how it is that they manage to keep everything orderly and un-cluttered, but they do. http://ask.metafilter.com/ I also waste lots of time at http://www.snopes.com/, which is a site all about myths and urban legends. Definitely check it out. The "Your Band Sucks" section of http://www.somethingawful.com/yourbandsucks/ is funny. Beware: don't read this guy's opinions on music if you can't take a joke. He'll give you ten reasons why pretty much every band ever is pretty much the worst band, well, ever! Um.. One more.. let's see. Okay try the Rasterbator: http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ I won't describe this one, wouldn't make any sense if I did. All I can say is that it isn't what it sounds like (get your mind out of the gutter, perv) but it's really cool.
