  • I have a general contractor that does work for us and is pretty good at various things, and has people with different skills he can call in quickly. This could be a plumbing, roof, drainage or other problem; I've seen a lot of leaks in 65 years. Last time, it turned out a nail had been driven in the wall and it went into a plastic drain pipe from upstairs; when the nail finally rusted away it started leaking. Once it was rainwater stacking up against the back of the house in heavy rains and seeping between the brick and the slab. Roof leaks can be hard to find so you have get on the roof and look real close for nails that have worked their way up by repeated heating/cooling, loose flashing, rotten wood where metal flashing fastens, mortar that has cracked and opened up places in chimney or walls, gutters clogged and overflowing and pushing water under bottom row of shingles, etc., etc. ... Good luck!
  • If you have hot water base boards they are probably sweating from the heat humidity, water is condensing on the pipes and dripping off. Try running a dehumidifier.
  • if you live on the ground floor, then water could be coming up thru the floor. from the cement.
  • I would ask first which type of windows you have, It is a common thing to have windows leak if they were not properly sealed when built or when last siding put on, Many times the silicone based sealer around the windows will harden and or crack from the temp. varying over the years, If you rent have the maintenance check windows, if you own, go to a home improvement store and ask for "Vulcum" and then get a caulking gun and ask about how to apply. You may not see signs of water coming in it may be enough to get your carpet wet but not soaked, by the time water seeps down inside wall is will be partly soaked up by surrounding material, and so you may only see the residule, Or if enough wind with the rain, the wind can blow the shingles up and the rain can find a leak if there is one there
