  • Yes. For instance, I dislike both Obama AND McCain, and yet I don't know either of them.
  • Yes, for while I dislike Obama, and don't know him, I don't know you either, yet I like you for some reason!
  • Yes it is definatley true, you get natural instincts with some people and others you go by what you have heard. For example if someone you are close to is being bullied and intimidated by someone you do not know and you here all the horrible things they have done, you instantly dont like that person!
  • What we like and dislike generally has little to do with actual facts about the person anyway. Liking or disliking anyone else even if you DO know them is a personal preference based completely on your own morality, beliefs or preferences. So what difference does it make if they are there or not, when its opinion either way.
  • yeah it is. you dont know me personally but if I was rude to you and called this question stupid and said you looked fat in that dress i bet you wouldnt like me. ;)
  • Sure. I dislike Hitler, and he died before I was even born.
  • You can dislike the product of a person whom you don't know and draw conclusions from that. For example, those rappers whose lyrics are disgusting/vulgar/insulting..maybe they're really great people, but you'd never know it by their product. I can only go by the information I receive. I can only go by conjecture based on what is available out there about such people. I hear someone saying something racist whom I don't know..well, I'm not fond of racists so I form an opinion based on what I hear. But do I take second-hand information from someone who has a grudge about someone else? No I don't. I think that is unfair and juvenile to do that! :)
  • Without question. I'm glad you used the word 'dislike'. 'Dislike' yes, hate, no.
  • Yeah, it happens to me all the time. Like, if a person is intensely and embarrassingly stupid....I would dislike that person, even though he/she might be alright personally.
  • Heck yes. There's tons of people I've never met that I dislike (and like) ...just because they rub me that way, my mood, my own issues....
  • I think it's possible but not very logical!!
  • Yes, we are wired on instincts, so if your gut says somethings amiss, we are usually in the right.
  • definitely, it happens every day! I don't personally know anybody here on AB and I love most of them.
  • Sure. Even people you do "know", you are only seeing one (or a few) sides of them. Even if you believe it is possible to fully understand and know another person, you are only going to fully understand a few people in your life. A TV personality or politician is just a step removed from you in a different way than your wife's ex-boyfriend or an acquaintance of yours is removed from you.
  • Absolutely, I hate child abusers, and I dont want or need to know them personally
  • Yes, first impressions are usually based on appearance or just the "vibe" you get from the person's personality/way of acting.
  • I dislike people I see every day, though never talked to in my life. Then again, I talk to the same people every day and dont even know there name.
