Personally, I would go along with it, not letting him get to me, all the while gathering information. Then, when he's in a very public situation show him up for the smug, arrogant little jerk that he is. "Oh hang on a second <insert name here>, there's the boss. Why don't you go and tell him what you know about the software for the Procedures module that got stolen by that rival team?" or something similar. Then sit back and watch him squirm. Make a new enemy? Hardly, he alread was. Then he got fired. Wiped that little smirk right off of his arrogant face.

I would deal with the smug, arrogant jerk in a highly professional manner. You smile all the while, speak very softly, condescendingly even if it comes to that, and make "eat sh*t and die" sound like "have a nice day, ya'll!" (I've been told often I can do that!) Smug arrogant jerks usually are like that because they know their smug arrogance gets a reaction out of people. The less reaction you have to them, the less satisfaction they derive from any interaction with you.

I "Kill 'Em with Kindness", so to speak. They are looking for praise, so that's what I give them, but in an honest, "Have a Nice Day" sort of way. Give them a taste of their own medicine...;)
