Why do people care so much about what others think about them? How can they stop caring about this?

The most basic answer: "Man is a social animal". Afterall, we all are part of the animal world.We have emotions, feelings( most important of which is, love).Its all about the fear of losing whom we love. If we don't care what love is, we will not bother about relations. Many people define this in many ways- psychology, relationship concepts, parapsychology etc.

Man craves for acceptance and at most times does not want to look like a fool in front of their peers or be in the eye of the censure. We are afraid to be laughed at if we fail and that and only that stops us from trying so many new things in life. For years I too was a "what will others say" kind of a personality till one fine day I took the plunge and decided to hell with it. We only live once and on our death bed we shouldn't look back and repent for not having tried out things our heart desired because we were afraid of the world's opinion. My experience in life is that others are NOT waiting for us to fail to laugh at us. More often than not they admire our guts for atleast trying and even if we do stumble they are out to lend a hand and pat our backs for trying. GO for it.!!!!!
