Help answer this question below.
I would not accept that this was the ONLY WAY to solve the problem. I have a cell phone. I would quickly call 911 and report everything I knew. I would keep this person talking and stationary as long as possible and create as many obstacles to hsi/her mission as possible. I would not kill this person - especially based upon such limited information. It is very unlikely that it would even be necessary.
na, i'd stay out of it
I don't kill him, plain and simple. Who am I to say that just because he said he was going to do it, that he actually will. To punish somebody BEFORE they commit a crime, based on what you think they MIGHT do, is ludicrous.
Ooh, you're twisted.
uhhhmmm, I think I would tell him that I dont have anything on me to kill him with so I'm going to go into a bar (or something near-by) to find something. Then I would use a phone, either inside or if I have my cell phone, and call 911.
Id try nocking him out unless he had a weapon.
no fuckin way im not taking a murder charge because he's psychaotic id just hope its not gonna be me and if it was then id fight back in self defense
no, i wouldnt, unless that person he was going to kill was family ect.

You're reading If you meet someone on the street and he tells you he is going to go kill someone, and the ONLY WAY you could stop him was to kill him right then and there, would you do it?

It is the only way, because the question says it is the only way. Everyone on this site tries to answer these questions in such a way as to not offend or seem as prim and proper as possible. Well, this question has no inbetween. You kill the guy and save someones life, or you don't kill him and someone dies. No inbetween, no other possibilities, no indecision. You kill or you don't kill plain and simple.

So, there is a conundrum. It is a philosophical ambiguity. There consequences are intollerable either way, but one is only responsible for one's own ethical choices. It is a good question and both invites and requires the answerer to see the future. Granted that advantage given to us by the questioner, I do not know, but I think my answer would have to remain the same while respecting other people's answers as well. Of course, if I answered "yes" that i would kill the person, I would need to do so with the understanding that i was potentially forfeiting my life and/or freedom. As would be the case with civil disobedience, I would have to be willing to absorb the consequences of even a noble choice. Thanks for the lesson in protocol. There was no intention to offend. My answer was to the concept and not the member.
