  • you will lose weight if you cut out junk food, eat lean meats and fish and vegetables(healthy) control your portion sizes, and when you work out you work out in your mhr zone ;)
  • You are 5'9" and weigh 140 and you want to lose? I am 5'8" and outweigh you by almost 50 lbs. I would...... I don't know what I would do to be your weight. Lucky girl.
  • No, it sounds like your body is already at a healthy weight. Your BMI is 22.6, well withing a low risk range.
  • Can I just join you in the swimming?
  • I am 5ft 7 and I am also 140lbs. I too am also trying to lose weight....everything seems like a fuzz to me there are so many diets telling me do this do that, that I am not sure what works and what doesn't. I have been to the gym and I have been told to do weight resistance circuits but was told that I won't lose weight but my body shape will change and I will lose inches of body fat and not weight, this has made me feel uncertain yet again as my aim was to lose weight not to tone up as such! Has anyone got any advice please?
  • You don't need to lose weight at 5'9 and 140 lbs. My guess is that the calories you are burning are making you eat a little more, therefore not weight loss. Not to mention all the muscle you are building. Besides, weight's just a number. How you feel is the true test!
  • Yes and tone as well!!!
  • I took a class called concepts of wellness and we were required to exercise 3x per week for 30 minutes in our target heart rate zone. She taught us that in the end there is a calculation to do to find out how much fat you have lost and how much lean muscle you have gained, one girl only lost 3 pounds of weight when she looked on the scale but with further calculation realized that she had lost 18 pounds of fat and gained 15 pounds of lean muscle. The scale didnt' show it but she looked amazing and lean muscle burns more calories just by being lean muscle. you'll probably gain some muscle if you're working out that much but if you're still not convinced, make sure you're exercising in your target heart rate zone (look up how to calculate it on google.) good luck!
  • probably not much, at 140 lbs at your height you are probably pretty thin as it is. I'd say add a few pounds.
