depends on the employer, industry, govt etc. is this a state or federal or govt job? is this a job involving regulations... such as driver etc? is this a union job etc??? there are different requirements by the thousands

Workers Compensation hates to pay out money, (from what I've heard from relatives). Anything they can use to avoid paying money, they will. Here in Oregon, any injury that falls into a Worker's Comp claim is automatically drug tested. They want to see if the injury happened while the employee was under the influence of anything. The trouble with that is, someone could be sober as a judge, and have a real accident at work. A drug test reveals that he took a puff of weed within the last thirty days; doesn't do jack to tell if he was high at the time of the accident. Guess who gets to pay his own medical bills, and probably got fired from work.
