My son gave Jim a gift certificate for Costco a couple of years ago...Jim applied it toward a GPS...the brand name is Magellan (sp?)..cost about $200 at Costco..the screen size is about 3.5 inches. We love it! Often I'll get a Mapquest destination map and compare it to the GPS..never get lost that way. There are some GPS systems that are far more expensive, with larger screens. But for our needs the one we have is perfect! Once you have one and use it you'll wonder how you ever got along without it! :)

I use a Trimble Geo-Explorer, but it's for work. It's not typical for general use by the public. Unit and software about $5,500.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 101. I did have a Garmin eTrex until it fell apart. The Forerunner 101 was designed for runners, and has runner-specific features, such as pace, laps, and training assistant. The navigation features are rather limited, only 1 position format, 1 datum, and bearings are in cardinals. Units are statute and metric. Speed can be displayed as miles (or kilometers) per hour, or as minutes-seconds per mile or kilometer. The eTrex has many datums and formats, bearings can be switched between degrees and mils. Units are statute, metric, and nautical. Speed is expressed in miles (or kilometers) per hour only. As for user-friendly, they are about equal.
