How do YOU personally distinguish whether or not someone cares about you specifically or its just who they are as a person, other than by them telling you?

Good question. For ages, I wasn't sure if this girl liked me or not, because she's very friendly and flirty with everyone. I personally did a poor job distinguishing and decided she didn't like me specifically. She did, I suppose, though, because eventually some things happened. Anyway, in the future, if this scenario repeats, I'll try to express my interest more and see if the person reciprocates.
