  • I would say that this friend was not as genuine as you felt. So long as you paid for the petrol there was a mean attitude to the situation. I suggest you find a better friend, someone who would have lent you one of their cars, a friend in need is a friend indeed.
  • Insurance comes with an option for you to get a rental if your car is stolen or in the shop. I would say they dont want to jeapordize their insurance rating, and the current cosmetic state of their car. The owner of a vehicle will also become liable for any damages done by the car.
  • What else are you expecting them to do? Give you their car? That seems unreasonable on your part. Did you ask to borrow it? You should have had insurance, which would cover your car being stolen and a rental car from the insurance company. If you didn't have insurance, or your car was stolen because of something insurance doesn't cover (like you left it unlocked, etc) than I wouldn't want to lend you my car either in case the same thing happened to my car... And why does it matter if they are of the opposite sex? Is that suppose to make them more willing to put their insurance at risk for you?
