  • Wow...I think you've put way too much thought into this issue...they're just points.
  • If everyone thought of them that same way, that would be true. However, due to the fact that so many people give them out for essentially no reason, points have come to be worth very little. My way of showing respect for a person's input is to give them an intelligent answer/comment. Points I don't even bother with much.
  • I actually don't :) They're free. They don't really count for much, I don't think. So I give them out whenever I like. It's sort of like...if people want them so much, I don't mind. They can have them, it's not hurting me and it might make them happy if they really do care that much.
  • Yes ... when ever I ask a question, there will only be one answer that will get my maximum up rate of +6, one for a +5 second place, ... any answer that is not idiotic or abusively offensive will get at least one point for being an acceptable answer ... the rest of the answers will get different amounts of points depending on what I feel is the quality of their answer ... but I do not just automatically give the max. For questions that I choose to answer, I just try to rate how much the question makes me think, what it makes me think about, and how relevant it may be to my life ... again, no auto-max uprates, although most do get the max. For the other answers that I may rate or comment on, again, only one of them will get the max from me ... as I pick the top answer in my opinion, the rest will get differing amounts of points, based on how I feel about their answers ...
  • I give out points like I give respect, it's free unless the person does something to make me not respect them or not give them points.
  • I do not pay for the points and if it is an opinion question I am very happy to give points for each opinion. We are all entitled to have opinions on a subject it does not matter how different from my own they are. I respect everyone until they give me reason not to so do.
  • Hi, there sis. I give everyone my maximum all the time..questions or answers, it matters not. Why? Because I don't like to "judge". I want to eliminate any favoritism in my scoring. I don't want the fact that I agree with an answer to be the reason for giving more points..what if the answer with which I disagree is actually right? Also, I don't want to give my friends the edge, which would be natural. So you will never know what I think based on the points I give..it will only be revealed in my comments or lack thereof! I also have never DR'd anyone. I think it's silly to do so! Happy Tuesday! Want some cocoa?! :) ((hugs))
  • I pretty much only give out points to people I like. Yeah, I seriously just said that. I don't care enough about points to try and figure out if a question or answer deserves them or not. Plus, it's all relative anyway. Also, if my level indicates how much people respect me here, my faith in humanity just took another hit.
  • It's supposed to work that way, except the points are supposed to be for the answer only, not the person. However, it doesn't work that way, because not every one sees every answer and so some very good answers go completely pointless, which makes the entire point system pointless.
