If you want an animated one then it needs to be a gif and no more than 64x64.

I tried to change mine earlier today to a picture I have on my computer and it didn't work. I had to settle for one of answerbags avitars. Maybe there is something going on with the site.

If you go to Profile Activity, and on edit persanol settings. you can download a new one. (of your pictures) ... =)

Here are possible reasons: 1. Sometimes the system is slow at recognizing the change, and can take a while to do so. It has took almost a day for me once. 2. You are trying to change it with a animated GIF. I think in that case you need to resize it ti 64x64 pixels. I am not sure though, on the size. 3. The system won't let you upload that format. I believe you can change the format to GIF or JPEG. Hope this helps!

If the avatar is in the gif or jpeg fromat and of the proper size, 60X60, 64X64. It should upload. Save it to your hard drive and load from there. GIFWORKS.COM helps change size and properties for you.

instead of clicking Submit I put the curser in the box and click enter on my keyboard and it seems to work that way. It wont work if I click submit....Or sign out and sign back in and the new one might pop up.

Most likely the avatar IS updated, but the cache in your browser holds the old avatar! (At least that happened to me). Upon shift-clicking the reload-button, most browsers ignore the cache and reload the images fresh from site.

That was happening to me and then hours later a different avatar would appear beside my name . It was a bit weird I was 3 or 4 different people in a few hours all with the same name and none of the pics. I had chosen . I gave up and went back to my parachute. The drunken dog was just not me

I did change mine for the Christmas holidays, but now I want to change it again and cant seem to get the other one to go away.

After uploading a new avatar, try hitting the "refresh" on your browser. Usually works.

Either the file size is too large, the file type is not supported here at AB or the pixel size is greater than 60X60

You probably just need to hit the refresh button on your browser -- images are 'cached' by the browser for efficiency, so it doesn't have to reload them from the server every time.

I had the same prolem and then about 30 min later the avatar would change , since i had tried to load many different pics it was a hit and miss affair and I went back to the original. I think it just takes its own time and will retrieve it from the cache when it feels like it.

Maybe, subconsciously, you are too attached to it.

If you corrected uploaded it, there are two possible scenarios: 1) It HAS changed, but the cache file of it on your computer hasn't. Try emptying your cache. 2) Answerbag is being slow.

We have size restrictions, so if you're uploading a 10MB image it won't work. Try resizing the image to under 2MB before uploading. If you're using windows, try the Microsoft Power Toy called "image resizer" found here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx On the mac, you can try one of the programs from macupdate - I don't have any experience with any of them so I can't recommend one, but you can find more info here: http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=resize+image&os=macosx&button.x=0&button.y=0&order=rating I hope this helps.

This is not a question. Ask , "Why can't I change my avatar?" It has more than likely been asked already and you will be directed to the answers. I don't know why this could happening, but someone else probably does.

Have you downloaded the avatar you want properly? You have to download it right I think to be able to use it.

All I do know is, it only allows to upload JPEG's, and best from C drive, so you must upload and save. If that fails, it seems to be a gliche in your computer.

I've had this myself. Not sure why, but it seems to accept certain Avatars and not others. I just had to try a few until it accepted one.

You are the fourth person today I am aware of with this problem, and I reckon that AB has an avatar loading bug. I would report it through feedback or the blog.

jpgs and gifs are allowed. Mine is a gif. You need to make sure the size is no larger than 60 x 60 pixels. I'm not sure what the kb limit is, but it is larger (kb) than many other sites I have used.

I was going to use an avatar that I liked and it matched the size requirements last night and it would not accept it. I'm stuck with one of these ultra-dull avatars. Anyone from AB staff wants to explain why I can't upload standard size JPEGs right now. My trash bag looks like an overweight Doberman. ¿Why is this?

Ive got the same thing. Look at shelby. I uploaded the correct format, and all i get is a bag. I think its answerbag being slow. Yesterday a few of us had giant bags for a while.

Go to My Settings, your avatar, Click on "click here to change". Then it you can change it.

a quick fix is try another browser, if you havent already got it get firefox, quite often when something wont work in IE it will work in another browser http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

Like Satan's Neighbor From Hell says: Try another browser. You may download, if you don't have it Firefox or other ones like Flock from Flock.com or Safari from apple.com. Safari has a new version for Windows and Flock is a variation of Firefox. Good Luck!

As you know by now. these things happen from time to time and members find glitches in the system. Best to seek advice from the staff when these problems come up so they will be aware of the problems so they can fix them faster. I know this is an old question and as far as I know the problem is no longer an issue. Good question.
