  • I would surmise no. The air is at a lower density at higher altitudes, which would limit the transference of the kinetic energy (compression waves) from molecule to molecule.
  • Unsure but when turbines break the sound barrier you will see a plume of smoke resembling a saucer,Thats what you hear at the crack of a whip u know? I think yes about the higher altitudes because the sound bounces off the surface of the earth.
  • Sound's velocity is directly proportional to density of the surrounding medium. Intensity, however, is a different matter.
