  • The currect record holder for most career shutouts is Walter Johnson with 110; the current active leader is Roger Clemens with 48 (tied with Kid Nichols for 25th all-time).
  • This is incredibly hard to look up; the most I could find for sure was Hall of Famer Juan Marichal of the Giants who threw a 9 inning shut-out (one-hitter) on his debut on 19th July 1960, followed by 6.2 innings in his next outing before he conceded a run. So that is 15.2 innings that he managed. The longest ever shut-out thrown on debut is 11 innings by Jesse Stovall in 1903 for Cleveland v Detroit, but I can't find box scores going back far enough to see how he got on in his next outing and therefore whether he threw more than Juan Marichal before he gave up a run. So my bid so far as a starting point is 15.2 by Juan Marichal, maybe someone with access to better records or better methods of searching can find something more. Of course the record need not be held by a starter necessarily, it could be a relief pitcher, in which case I'm damned if I know how to track the answer down!
  • I got the definitive answer to this now, it is George McQuillan, who pitched 25 scoreless innings from his debut on May 8th 1907 with Philadelphia.
