If at all possible, I will stop and help (or at least ask if I can help). If it is obvious people may be hurt or in danger, I'll also call 911.

Of course!

Stop without hesitation, who wouldn't?

Always!

It would depend. If the emergency services were already in attendance I would keep going. People who stop to "help" once the situation is already being professionally dealt with tend to get in the way and cause more harm than good. If they weren't I would stop (if it was safe to do so of course) ask if emergency services had been called, and if not, do so. Then if it was safe would put out warning triangles to alert other drivers. If there were any obvious immediate injuries I could help with, such as putting an arm in a sling I would try to help, if necessary I would perform resusitacion, but I wouldn't try to extract anyone from the wreckage or move anyone who might have a damaged spine or try to deal with anything I wasn't sure about and generally just stay about trying to re-assure people until the emergency services arrived. Then I'd give a statement if they wanted one, then leave.

Either these respondents are the last few saints or maybe they are answering more on how they'd like everyone to react. I would love to say that I ALWAYS stop and help, but that would be lying. Picking up the cell to dial 911 is one thing, but stopping for every accident you see to offer aid? It just doesn't happen in the real world. Depending on more details like where the accident occurs (good part of town or not), time of day (on your way to work or 2 am?), and circumstances (severity of accident, kids in the car?) I'd say stopping is more the exception than the rule. Fear of putting oneself in a scam-like dangerous situation prevents a lot of good samaritan acts. There's also the realism of our litigious society punishing those that get involved with supoenas and lawsuits. I hope we continue to help whenever we can, but let's also be honest.

Would do, have done. I feel sorry for littemissdangerous, who obviously lives in a much nastier world than I do.
