  • I believe there already is a Universal Church. It is called the Catholic Church. The Catholic hierarchy is opposed to it. Why? Because it forwards sycretism, the false teaching that all religions basically equivalent. No Catholic may accept this even based solely on the moral teaching of the Catholic Church vs. every other reason. [Cardinal Arinze] "said that a United Religions would give the appearance of syncretism and it would water down our need to evangelize. It would force authentic religions to be on equal footing with spurious religions."
  • The only people I know concerned about a United Religion or one-world church taking over are Christians. I've never heard from any other religion/belief that that's the goal. Most of the rest of us, like UUs, want to provide a spiritual home for people seeking it; not convert the world or change existing churches.
