i don't mind telling a buddy he's looking sharp every now and then... but i tend to differ between the comments i would pass on to a girl and the comments i pass onto a guy just worded slightly different, that's all

It's a macho thing. The guy fears of being perceived as gay and the compliment being miscontrued as a pass at him.
