Why does everyone hate those questions that say grab the book nearest to you turn to a page and read a line what does it say?

I hate them cause I never have a book by me to look at. I don't know if I have a book in my entire house other than a phone book.

I can't answer for everyone, but for me, I don't like it when a blog game shows up on a question and answer site. It is quite obvious, I am in the minority on this one.

There's really only one question of that variety that matters, everyone else is just trying to cash in and make some points. Gracin (a very nice user who asked the original "page 18 line 4" question, now up to 2000 answers or so), was completely shocked at how successful the question became, and I suspect quite dismayed that she keeps getting answers year after year. Let's face it, it's not the world's greatest question -- but it sort of serves as an icon of how wild Answerbag can be, that everyone who shows up seems to feel obliged to grab the nearest book because of this thing...

Not everyone hates them. I have only seen one question like that which I thought was kind of cute and so I answered it. Certainly much better than all the relationship question where people expect us to know what their partners are thinking.

It certainly does nothing to increase the net intelligence of AB or the universe. It's a waste of time.

I think it annoys people, because they think, "who really cares, what a sentence in the book you are reading is?"

Those ? always get tons of answers. I don't think they are hated, I think they are adored! I always ignore them because I have something dumb near me, like the vacuum cleaner owners manual. sheesh.

People today are too "lazy", they want too look things up on the Internet, even those who can remember a time before the Internet became a part of everyday life around 1995 something.

just asked one of those questions. didn't realise there was that many of them, i've only seen the one and thought it was really cool so decided to put a fresh one on here. fairly un-original i suppose but hey, whatever.
