How about writing about helping a friend through a rough time? Might still have a dark/sad theme, but from a differant point of view.

write about a child's smile or a sleeping child, they are like little angels (while sleeping).
Write about a blooming flower or the sunshine
write about 2 people you see that are in love, how they look at each other

    Yarnlady is happy every day

I love your new name. It is very creative.

What about writing about your experiences on Answerbag? How you found it, what your reactions to the questions and answer has been, how the comments have been helpful or not. You could even turn it into a fiction story about a person who had her life changed by AB.

Write about a guy that one day wakes up and realizes that simply by pointing his fingers at women like a gun and making a bullet sound like he's shooting, he can make them orgasm.

What about trying to write about one of your most happiest moments..even if it was very small to everyone else..it may have meant the world to you at that time:)

  • Darkness and sadness are a state of mind, not a genre. One can turn any topic into something grisly, something miserable or even something light-hearted. But that comes from the author (you).

Take a look at Roald Dahl's stuff, and the different ways it can be interpreted, depending upon the interpreter. Even a topic like death can be dealt with in a non-gloomy manner, and a little humour goes a long way.

OK, enough of that. Topics, topics... As an exercise, write a ghost story (normally spooky) that is anything but spooky. Place a story in the afterlife as if it were normality.

Time machine/portal stories always allow the author room to breathe. How good is your military or spy knowledge? Conspiracy theories are fun (and can become best sellers!), but you'll need to make up a conspiracy... modern day events should hold something good. Or fables. Fables are good too.

Titles, hm... how about: Arthur and his magic hat-rack. The Lion and the Zebra. Talk Dirty to me. Exposure.
