• One could do the trick -- but not for long.
• One is right, but it's not that simple. In addition to 12V, you also need 5V and 3.3V supplies, which would require using a couple of DC to DC convertera.
• 1 if you have a UPS or an invertor. If you put 10 in series to get 120v. you will burn up the small transformer in the monitor. It has to be AC not DC. I use a car battery on my UPS, i can go a half hour when there is a power failure.
• Depends on the amount of time you need it to run on the battery. but one will do for short periods of time. but you will need an inverter properly sized for the startup load. depending on your monitor and computer running watts, you probably looking at about an hour of runtime on an average battery. that would be taking the battery to 0%. which is not good to do becuse then the battery will sulfate and only last a dozen cycles.. if you only run to 50% thats a half an hour. then it would last considerbly longer.
• It's true running your car battery dead will dramatically shorten it's usable life. Battery guard keeps track of available battery power and when is senses the battery getting too low it shuts down the output. You could buy a low cost laptop and run it off an emergency jumpstart unit with better results.
