Difference between army and marines?

I am not sure, but I think Army is based on land and the Marines are sent outside by sea.

Army is the main combat force of the united states, and are in general not quite as well trained as marines, Marines are a much smaller combat force, and the Marine Corps is a department of the navy, they work with the navy to be dispatched across the world, faster than the army.
