  • The most important difference in the two is the caliber of the bullets that can pierce the armor are different in the flak vest, with the Interceptor plates inserted. A bulletproof vest is much weaker in comparison. That is why one plate for the flak vest is worth well over 1 G. It normally uses 2-3 plates. I watched a video prior to deploying that showed different bullets being shot at the two vests respectively, and saw h ow some bullets were able to easily pierce through the bulletproof vest while not piercing the flak vest, which is larger... heavier... bulkier. BUT, safer. I would rather have the flak vest during a deployment than just the bulletproof vest.
  • A flak jacket is a particular kind of ballistic proof vest, particularly suited to protecting the wearer from shrapnel. It also typically provides at least some protection from bullets.
  • A "flak jacket" like the ones issued to WWII bomber crews were very heavy and ungainly, and were designed to stop shrapnel and pistol-caliber ammo. They were not very comfortable, nor were they effective against rifle and machine-gun fire. A "Bullet-proof" vest is a more modern invention and uses kevlar and compsite technologies to weave an inter-woven fabric which is stronger than steel and actually prevents bullets from piercing all the way through. There are different levels of armor. Level 1 is basically akin to the old-time flak jackets used and improved in Vietnam. Level 2 will stop small-caliber pistol ammo and glancing blows from rifle fire, and often has titanium or ceramic armor plates that can be fitted or removed for further ballistic protection. Level 3 armor will stop just about anything, but your mobility is severely limited, so this is ususlly used by one man in a squad, known as the "breech" man. This is also known as "Breech Armor"
  • Flack Jackets are typically issued to and worn by air-crew members. They have many similarities to "bullet proof vests", but allow for more coverage and yet still leave much freedom of movement which crewmembers must have. Infantrymen also have an armor vest which allows for much feedom of movement and is still relatively light.
