Society is slowly becoming so materialistic that it is substituting moral values and the knowledge of our own soul for material things or unneded services.

Society decided sometime along the way that they weren't really necessary anymore, and that self-interest is more important. Morals are largely dead and showing emotion is now weak, what is important now are material objects and appearance. I am disgusted by Western society and ashamed that I am a part of it. I'd love to say that I haven't been tainted, and perhaps I am far less than some, but I have. *sigh*

What an interesting question this is, as if to imply that those emotions ever existed, amongst entire societies, in the first place... There always have been, and always will be, some people, somewhere, who are nice, respectful, and humane; and there will always be some people, somewhere, who are greedy, cavalier, and cruel. You can't however, make the generalization that ALL people are anything, because no matter how bad your particular neighborhood or family background may be, that doesn't justify complaining about all of society.

It's still around. Almost all of humanity is capable. Some choose not to. I see lots of caring, humanity and respect.
