Help answer this question below.

My 1997 toyota 4runner wont start for me. the key will only turn to on and will not reach start. it is like the ignition is stuck. I am kind of stranded and i am wondering if there is something i can do without calling a tow truck?

    sometimes mine does that and if i wiggle the steering wheel it will go...like turn the wheel all of the way to the left and then the right and then try to turn it on

    Make sure its in park, and also try it in neutral.

    I know of 3 other plus myself with a 1995 Toyota 4runner key/ignition problem. I couldn't turn the key and was stranded. A friend told me the fix and it works great, cost me under $5.00, unfortunately you will need a ride (not a tow) to the Toyota dealership and BRING your registration and (VIN #).

    Go to the Toyota dealership and have them look up the KEY CODE using the vin# and have them make you a new key (and a few extras) from scratch (NOT by using an old key). Use the new key and it works great for about a year. When the ignition starts to give you problems get a new key the same way (or use one of your extras). DO NOT have a key made by having a copy made. You must go to the dealers ship and have them make a new key from using the vin# and the KEY CODE. Tip: you must prove you own the vehicle (bring your registration and license).
