  • have the same problem don't see any answers did you ever resolve?
  • Here is an answer I wrote to a similar question: "Here is some information about Disc Read Error (DRE). http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/915821/19658 It's likely this is what's happening to the console. Good luck getting it to work again! Try the easier methods first. (I've found that the disc cleaner tended to work the best when my PS2 came across this problem.) If you have to open it up, there's lots of guides on the internet with pictures. (In the case that you have a slim, disregard all of the instructions for opening in the article I link. It refers to the "fat" PS2.) Hope this helps!"
  • The laser is bad. Sometimes they will play PSX games (cd's) ok after the drop but they won't read DVD's anymore as there is a separate laser for that. The Playstation 2 cannot take an impact with the floor without damage to the laser assembly. I have repaired three PS2's for the same issue when somebody dropped them on the floor. A laser can be purchased and replaced, but the alignment is time consuming. A replacement laser w/deck can be had for under $30 and with care, replaced easily.
