southwest is cheap but there is a reason they are cheap.. they suck. i flew them one time and i had a layover of 5 hours for a 2 hour flight. their customer service sucks. they cancel flights all the time and don't give you money back or in any way accomodate you. If you get anything cheap it will be at the cost of comfort and customer service.

In the USA, there are specials daily on most airlines. Southwest has specials every Tuesday. Air Tran and Jet Blue also have specials weekly. You can check each website and look for specials and depending on where you go and your time flexibility you should find something compatible.
