I never had painc attacks where I thougth I was going to have a heart attack but I did have extreame social anxiety to the point where I almsot never left the house. Youve got to try to ground yourself. And it helps if osmetimes you ease yourself into a situation (if you dont like eing around lots of people and beign crowded go to a bookstore , then more frequently, then an art gallery on opening day, then the mall) once youve tackled these youll be able to look back (once you reason with yourself) and say "Hey, if I did that, I can definately do this!". Another thing i had to do was just throw myself into the situation. Not to even think about it, becuase once your mind starts churning you suddenly realize what could happen if you did this, or this, or even this (assume this were examples example of something...I'm a bit lazy). Turn your mind off and just do it. Youll be able to look back and realzie its not as bad as it seems. If it gets to bad you may need to: 1.) Get a self-ehlp book (which will then a therapist) 2.) Get a therapist. 3.) See a pysch. for medication that will help numb the anxiety.

I had panic attacks for years also only I didn't know what they were at the time. Every time I got in bed with my husband and I started to fall asleep. I felt like I couldn't breathe or that I had stopped breathing in my sleep. My body would jerk up because my mind thought I was dying. I realized that sleeping in the front room helped and then I just left my husband and I haven't had one since!!!
