I've thought about this for a while, and I've realised it's anything to do with children having some degree of independence, teenagers especially. There are so many parents on here who seem to consider children parasites, people they give shelter to and henceforth should be eternally grateful. A teenager's right to privacy, sexual independence, respect even, means nothing to a lot of people and they're not afraid to say it. Sexuality is an especially touchy subject. The notion that a 15 year-old and an adult four or five years older could date is absolute anathema for a lot of people.
