I dont think there's any. Many heavy metal songs are about emotional matters, but if you're so mentally weak that you'll let a song affect you, it merely brought upon the inevitable faster. I've been depressed, and I listen to both heavy and death metal songs. But even though I was listening to a song called "suicide and other comforts" with the line "I slit my wrist and slowly fade away" in it, I didn't feel like doing so...

I've been listening to Heavy Metal since 1984. I have never had a suicidal thought in my life.

I remember someone putting it into perspective kinda like this:
If it is so easy for us to create music that makes kids do drugs and kill themselves, why don't we create music that makes them sober up and cut the lawn?

if you feel like shredding your flesh apart then shedding on your guitar is an excellent alternative... i brought my guitar out today and managed to do both... my fingers lost their callouses :(

  • Several articles have stated the experts(?) have found that certain rythems and pharses when listened to for extended periods of time can cause serious mental changes in certain personality types.
Other experts(?) say that the idea must already be there for the music to effect a person.
Therefore pick the idea you like best because as usual no one really knows!!

If I had to listen to that crappy music, death would be a more pleasant alternative.

There is a connection, though I think heavy metal has more to do with satanic influences, as evidenced by satanic band names in other languages.

about the same connections as country music and suicide, or blues and suicide, jazz and suicide, pop and suicide, et cetera...
there are links everywhere if you look. and that's what these fundamentalists have done. the imagery in heavy metal scares them so they try extra hard to find more evil than what is actually there. with the same effort the same links could be found with other genres of music i'm sure. what i'm curious about is why they spend so much time searching for evil when they ought to be searching for good.
