    Hard to explain, salt has been around since BC, then to the Revoultion, and then salt mines in the 1800's in China and Germany.

    I'm pretty sure it was Angelina Jolie. Originally, the script was meant for a male lead, but I don't think it was ever actually offered to an actor. Somebody thought it would be a good movie for Jolie, and since she was unwilling to film an entire movie wearing a fake goatee and prosthetic adam's apple, they changed the part to a woman.

    the first in the world saltworks operation(8000 years) has been discovered at the Poiana Slatinei archaeological site next to a salt spring in Lunca, Neamţ County, Romania. Evidence indicates that Neolithic people of the Precucuteni Culture were boiling the salt-laden spring water through the process of briquetage to extract the salt as far back as 6050 BC.[9] The salt extracted from this operation may have had a direct correlation to the rapid growth of this society's population soon after its initial production began
