Assuming one has the money for it, is it possible to build a house that's so expensive it's a sin? If yes, what is that point?

Maybe the Taj Mahal? or this, the world's most expensive home... http://luxuryhomedigest.com/2008/04/09/most-expensive-mansion-in-the-world-redux/ According to the article, they will employ 600 people as staff, and of course uncountable people will benefit from the building of the place, so it can't be "that" bad. I don't believe in sin, but look at it this way. If people didn't have something to strive for, why even bother doing anything? Would you rather we all have to be exactly equal? What if someone is stronger than I am, is that bad, richer, then?
