97 Ford Taurus(3L Vulcan) New oil & filter;Oil pressure light came on yesterday & engine began knocking.Oil is still present in the pan,but not getting into the engine to lubricate.Guess is oil pump & wondering where its location & DIY diff. & avg pt cost

Your problem with an oil pump may be just the tip of the iceberg. Low oil pressure and knocking like you have indicated may be more than a pump. Possible main bearings and cam bearings. A rebuild may be in your future. Mr Bill
