This would work only if you had the exact right voltage 'battery charger', or more correctly a power supply. You would also need to make sure the supplied power is very well conditioned, as the laptop is expecting to get pure DC here and as such will not have many filters. If you are asking about just taking the laptops external power adapter, the one that came with the laptop, and connecting it directly to the battery terminals, no that likely will not work. The external power adapter needs to go through some additional conversions inside the laptop before it can be connected to the battery. If this is a good laptop, suggest you just get it repaired. If it is an old one, just get a new one. Or even a good used one (should be able to find some ala IBM T40's for around $400) -al-
