I was going in for a routine outpatient surgery for removal of a lypoma (fatty tissue tumor). However, having never been in a hospital in my life (my mum had a midwife) I had some anxiety about it. My doctor instead of explaining to me the procedure and what nots, wrote me an rx for valium. I was upset enough I switched surgeons. Thankfully. Turns out I have a hemophiliac type bleeding disorder, and thus bleed quite alot internally. My new surgeon having prior knowledge of my anxiety, invited me to stay overnight, which helped reduce my anxiety, and thus when I went unconscious in the hospital my life was saved, instead of bleeding to death at home. It was my first semester away from college, and there was no lawsuit. Though, after the fact, my original doctor was greatful I had an overnight stay, seeing as I nearly died.
