Being charismatic is crucial for a phone interview. I suggest that you have a copy of your resume along with a copy of the job description in front of you. This is all the material you need. From this information, the interviewer will ask you about your relevant job experience and whether you match the criteria of the offered position. The best tip is to sound competent but not over-confident - and to have this information in front of you so that you don't get nervous and miss the opportunity to be highly articulate. Think of it this way - phone interviews allow you to have a cheat sheet - the face-to-face interview is the same day only harder! Good luck!!

When in doubt, there's no substitute for "be yourself". Generally speaking, phone interviews are a lot like regular interviews without the strange smells: the interviewer wants to get to know you, and try to get a sense of who you are. There's really no way you can know what sort of person they are most likely to connect with and be comfortable with, so being yourself is your best bet. As for preparation, you should prepare like a regular interview: have a list of questions about the job and company that are of interest, be ready to answer clearly and concisely about your own experience and qualifications, and speak clearly. One thing that's very helpful, but tricky to learn, is to "listen while you're speaking". Communication is mostly about listening, and it's possible to hear yourself and the other person at the same time, that helps you to connect with others. But there's no way to make yourself learn that in a few days, so don't worry about it if you have no idea what this means.

Actually I have had 3 phone interviews. And I got the job each time. The obvious advantage to a phone interview is that you have the ability to be in comfortable surroundings. The next thing I would suggest is jot down some accomplishments you have had in the past. And of course the usual questions will be brought up that you experience in a normal interview. Jot down some short answers to cover these. But most important make sure that nothing draws your attention from the interview itself. and relax.....
