Some programs have uninstallers. These might be on the disc or disk image that you installed the software from. Generally speaking, Mac programs are self-contained and so you could just drag them to the trash to remove them. However, other small files (such as preferences placed by the program in system folders) will be left behind. As such, it is a good idea to use a program such as AppZapper rather than just dragging to the Trash, as it will collect all the related files and allow you to delete them all.
