You Never Know it is a crazy world we live in;) I think there is more to this story, But it is AWWFUL;)

This is why I teach such devastating self defense methods, along with calm peaceful meditations. It is far better to be prepared for the worst, while hoping for the best. These attacks are rare, but can be prepared for with proper training.

I'm more of the coldly logical and intensely analytical people who recognize statistics and that the chances of such a thing happening to me are about the same as hitting the powerball jackpot while getting struck by lightning...

Such sad news does not change the fact that every time you get in your car and go to the store you are putting your life at risk. More people die in auto collisions than any other way.

That was horrible. It sure makes you think when things like this happen. People shooting people in schools and restaurants or where ever. But we can't live in fear or we would never leave the house.

I never assume(d) I am/was safe in teh first place. I drive. Despite media hype and people's fears, it is FAR more dangerous than flying. I work with CNC machinery. One typo could make the machine do something that would spew fragments like a grenade. I own cats. If you want safety, you're in teh wrong damned world.

No. I just accept it as an anomaly of horrendous proportion and then forget about it.:(

Not really. It does make me appreciate what I have from day to day even more, though. :)

I'm usually packing so for me, no. I just maintain awareness. Whether or not you choose to be armed, Self defense classes are important. The most important part of self defense is avoiding or deescalating the situation in the first place. A martial society is a polite society... If more people learned how to "whup an a$$", a lot of trouble could be avoided. Of course, this guy is probably clinically insane, but an average, run of the mill stabbing mugger dude would start to wonder... "Am I about to get my a$$ whupped?" "Maybe I better not mug this person". I am also disturbed by the lack of action of the others in this situation, I can't imagine someone didn't climb on this guy's head like a cat trying to get out of a swimming pool.
