Yes. My first wife (now dead), her sister (still living), and their paternal grandmother (now dead), are/were all color blind. Color blindness in females is rare but it does exist. They are/were all red-green color blind.

    Yes.
    Blue-yellow color blindness:
Color blindness involving the inactivation of the short-wavelength sensitive cone system (whose absorption spectrum peaks in the blue) is called tritanopia or, loosely, blue-yellow color blindness. It is equally distributed among males and females, because the gene coding for the short-wavelength receptor is located on chromosome 7.

    See:

There are different types of color blindness, the above link has a full article on the topic and external links for more information. They also have a couple of simple tets in the page which are kind of neat. Hope this helps.

I have heard that it is extremely rare for females to be colour blind and if they are there is so much more wrong with them that it doesn't matter. I have a feeling that the yellow-blue thing you are talking about is not colour blindness. I have an eye deficiency which effects yellow and blue and the optometrist insists that it is not colour blindness and has nothing to do with it.

It is possible for a female to be color blind. There are three prevailing types of color blindness. The yellow blue type is not the most common but it does occur. The most common type of color blindness is the type that makes differention between red and green difficult. Most optometrists can test your daughter and tell you if she is color blind.

I'm colour blind and if your daughter is having trouble with colours she should be tested, ther are also tests online, and trust me you can't fake it.It is very rare for a woman to be colour blind but I am one of the lucky ones.My father and my moms brother are colour blind so that probably sealed my fate.ha ha. You get used to it be let me tell you always take someone with you when you shop for clothes, because what you think is one colour, or what matches turns out to be apparently amusing.
