I water my plants by filling the saucer under their pots. Someone said I should also put some water on top of the soil. Is that correct?

You should provide proper drainage and water plants from the top making sure the water exits into the saucer. I assume you're in a climate that gets fairly hot, so flowering plants and non-succulents should, in hot periods, be watered daily...BB

you should pour water into the top of the soil until the water drips from the bottom
