The following is pure speculation on my part: Although the rumor is they were written 100 to 300 years after Christ's crucifixion, they were written closer to the time when he lived as well as closer to the times when the events in the Old Testament and New Testaments occurred. More or less the DSS substantiate the events written about in the Old and New Testaments. There are also other writings which were not included in either the Old or New Testaments.
