I guess it's because women had a whole Revolution of sorts, one of the ending results of which was that they could wear pants... while men never really had the need to start one... but personally I think everyone should dress however they want.

It's society. I am a female and if I see a man wearing woman clothes I really don't mind I actually find it some what attractive. But if my boyfriend sees a guy wearing girls clothes he calls them a fag and so on. It is upsetting that society makes up these little rules.

If they would shave their legs, and wear their makeup correctly, they probably could.

many years ago, i talked with a friend and decided to get together and go to the outback steak house. when he came over to the house, he was dressed up exactly like a woman. i think i was in complete shock. we did go to the outback steak house and then i went home alone. i guess from that experience, i learned that men can wear women's clothes in public, but, i personally felt very uncomfortable with the situation.

Oh, I'd love to see that! LOL ;)

Not sure if they can pull it off, some can, but not many...actually, for that matter, alot of women cant pull of certain women clothes either. Theres no set rule against it, I think women (earlier women, fem movement?) made much more of a fuss about it (equality). Personally, most girls I know that wear guy clothes are lesbians (that or have a low-selfesteem), and the guys that wear girls clothes tend ot be gay....but if a straught guy can pull it off without looking like a drag queen, more power to him! Just watch out of the breeze when wearing any dresses or skirts. :)

I think it's because part of western culture is a strong belief that males are the protectors of the tribe. It is acceptable for women to wear men's clothing because it only makes them "stronger" which is the aim of more modern women's movements anyway. But men wearing women's clothing implies they are "stepping down" from the protector role and becoming "weak" therefore not protecting the tribe. It's a learnt response but I feel that most people react to something like this without thinking the reasons through. There is a trend tho for men to wear makeup, cologne, use skin products etc. and take more care with appearance and clothing.

I don't know one woman who doesn't own some 'men's clothes', e.g jeans, trousers, shirts etc., But I don't know one man (unless he does it in secret!) who owns any women's clothes. So maybe that's because most men want to look like men - they still hold onto male power, whereas most women still look and feel feminine in any type of clothes. Clothes for a female are not a power issue. They're about looking attractiive/sexy etc., I guess both sexes wnat to appeal to the opposite sex if they're hetero so how many women would fancy a man in a dress and high-heels? Hmm...

Because of the cuts. Women's clothing is cut for a female figure, and most men just can't wear it if they wanted to, they won't fit comfortably in the clothes. A woman will fit in shirt cut for a man, although it will be too big probably. You can comfortably wear clothes that are too big, not clothes that are too small. "Feminine" clothing (skirts, whatever) is also often impractical for both the types of roles men have in society, and for covering up dangly bits. Women's clothes are often more about form than function. Men's clothes are primarily function first, form being totally dependent on the price point.

It's not fair, but life ain't fair. Move on.

fine you want a real answer? It's more unfair to the women because it is inferred that to wear men's clothing is acceptable because men are better and stronger and thus worthy of emulation. While for a man to wear women's clothing it is inferred that women are weaker, lesser creatures and thus unworthy of a man to lower his stature by dressing in said clothing.

It isn't fair. I decided a while ago that I didn't care, however, which is why I wear short skirts, pantyhose, and high heels out and about publicly as a man, and I have for about 15 years now. It's great fun.

Okay, trousers and shirts are a-sexual items of clothing really, so either sex can wear them....skirts, unless you are David Beckham, are really for Scotsmen and women. Also, why is it when transexual men wear womens' clothes do they have to look so tarty.....too short skirts, too high heels, too colourful and too much makeup?

I like to disregard social "rules" as much as possible...not for the sake of being different or rebellious, but because I like to have my own reasons for doing things and I don't like to be confined to others' expectations. With that said, I personally don't see the purpose for men or women wearing clothing meant for the opposite sex. It seems that society is confused and people don't know where they came from. But men and women were CREATED. That means there was purpose and design for why they are the way they are. If you want to ensure satisfaction from a product you purchase, you will need to know what it's for for one thing, and know how to use it. If you want to have satisfaction with your life, know what you are (where you came from, why you were made) and know how to use your life. I would suggest that for both products, and people, the person who created them would have the best answers to both questions.

Don't forget to shave your legs & armpits, pluck your eyebrows and wear a silky thong under that skirt

This social dilema has come through ages of incorrect thinking concerning the status of people. When people can accept and care about their neighbor for who they are and not what society dictates they should be, this inequality can become rectified. Many articles of attire have moved back and forth across the gender line throughout history. It's only in the mines of the present society that views an article inappropriate to be worn by the other gender, since objects of adornment have no real gender specifics. If a person can wear an item, then it is theirs, especially intimate garments. It's not my place to choose their personal appearance. They should also be as senitive to my choices. For example, I may not like the stoner, gothic fashion, but my dislike doesn't mean I have the right to ridicule and demean a person for choosing something that I find distasteful, especially if their choices don't cause me to become injured or to be denied any available personal choices.

Most men's clothes are just kind of normal t shirts and pants and things. Women's clothes are obviously meant for women and to show off the feminine anatomy and are tailored as such. Men's clothes unaltered are unflattering on women, women's clothes on men are unflattering as well, except women's clothes are usually tighter and/or more revealing, and therefore more outrageous for a man to wear.

Is is the same as long as you live somewhere like San Fransico! :)

Because we are not really as modern and open minded as we pretend.women still do the majority of the household chores.even when working full time.people still expect the mother not the father too take time off from work too care for the baby etc.I can wear mens clothing but when i was paiting oil wells i stopped at the gas station for gas i got dirty looks because my work clothes were dirty.Nobody gives a man dirty looks for wearing dirty work clothes at the end of the day.we are not equal.
