I lived in Germany for a while - just got back to the States in March. I used to take my old BMW 325 up to about 250kph/155mph on long straight stretches when I would make the drive from Heidelberg to Frankfurt. That's about as fast as I could get it to go. Invariably someone driving an Audi would start shining their headlights at me a few miles back and pass me like I was standing still. Seriously, Audis are scary fast. As old and beat up as that car was it felt smoother over 130mph than it did under 60mph. I did get ticketed a couple of times there for passing a traffic camera going 5-10kph over the city speed limit, but never for very high speeds.

-
I got up to about 115 MPH in my old Corolla. My wife was about 8 months pregnant, and on the phone with me when she got into a car accident. The phone got cut off and she didn't answer when I tried calling back. I knew about where she was so I booked as fast as I possibly could. I didn't care if there was a cop or not. Everything was fine. She was shaken up and our daughter was born 20 days later.

When my brother and I were teenagers we used to buy clunkers because were never had much money. When we considered a car we would take it out to Jacks Run Road and take it up to at least 125 mph. Back in the early 60's most cars would go that fast, stopping was optional at extra cost. We had a 1959 Dodge Coronet up past where the speedometer would read, the rear fender blew off but the engine kept on running.

Only brainless idiots risk the lives of other road users seeing how fast their cars can go on motorways.Unfortunately these mindless cretins seem to cause massive pile ups which cause the premature deaths to others, but they usually get away with it.
