Of course it is. Religion is a personal choice. If someone has different beliefs than their parents, they should practice their own beliefs.
-
I think so. It's good to find your own way, rather than just following.
-
The only authentic thing to do is to follow your own understanding.
-
Religion should be a personal choice, and the tradition / mandate to foist your own religion off on your children when they're too young to make an informed decision themselves is just one of the things that seems very wrong to me about many religions. IMHO, it's no better than brainwashing.
-
Your parents taught you what they believed.. which is not selfish because how would they teach you something they were not familiar with.. .. at least they wanted you to have some type of faith and I am sure it will hurt them if you find another path but you have to choose your own. Faith is personal for each and every one of us.. you cannot fall into a group because that is where they are.. you have to feel your way to your own.
-
Religion is to please God, not man. If you feel that the religion you're about to undertake is befitting to you, then there's no reason in hesitating. If your parents wre understanding then thay wiuldn't mind
-
You bet. Think about it. If people didn't leave, we would all be worshiping some dumb rock that looked like a bear or something.
-
of course It's called "Religious freedom"
-
If you do not feel it is right for you or leaves you feeling as if something is missing...yes, it is proper. Everyone has the right to their own beliefs, even your children.
-
Faith is a very personal thing. I believe there is only one acceptable way to worship God and the chances of being "born into that way" is not very common.
-
I have always maintained that the unexamined fraith is actually no faith at all. Make your own decisions.
-
God wants you to find your way in him. Even if your parents are christians. You will develop your own relationship that will make it so personal to you. God is sooooo good and is waiting for you to ask him into your heart. God will help you find the way.

No one here has mentioned that the age needs to be considered. If a child wants to leave the religion of his parents, it would not be considered proper by most, because he has not attained the age of majority. However, most teen are completely capable of making their own choices, and should be given that right.
-
Yes, if you feel God is calling you elsewhere. No, if you are just being rebellious. With love in Christ.
-
It is proper to leave the religion of ones parents if the person finds a life style that is more suitable for them.
-
I did. I'm not bothered by whether someone else considers it proper or not. I know it was the best choice for me.
-
yes. The last time I checked religion was a personal decision. You are free to make yours as you see fit.
-
Yes, I did and I'm thankful that my parents are open enough to it and respect me for finding my own beliefs.
-
I don't think it's a question of propriety. It's not honorable to follow the religion of one's parents unless you truly believe it it. Your beliefs are strictly your own, and accountable to no one else.
