I agree. The politically correct garbage is purely nauseating. Now granted, there was a time only one to two generations back where there were only 2 race classifications in the US, white and colored. That had to go, but we've gone so far as to create these compound names that end up being more separatist than the original prejudice-based system. They also serve to disassociate our people with their true heritage: American. My great grandfather may have been born in Ireland, and his parents in England, but I'm not Irish or English. I'm American.

I am irish also. I think these things are pointed out to identify w/o insult. Some still say black gentlemen or white lady when interviewed by the media. But dont fret there are bigger fish to fry--like uncover racism. We have made some moves--but We still have a ways to go.

I dont feel like it causes hatred/ignorance/separatism but it can be annoying. Since most in America are mutts, many dont have any real ties to where there ancestors came from. The whole PC thing is really based on just being polite (anbd trying to understand every cultures past and why it isnt ok to say certian things), people enforce it because they either are afriad of what they might say without it/who they might offend and/or people cant seem to understand how to be polite (ex: Not all Hispanics are Mexican). Being African-American myself, thats nothing I chose to call myself. And my family didnt chose it either. The U.S labels race (when it comes to black) by color , you dont need much to qualify as that race. Most black people are more then happy (and almost prefer) being called black. The funny thing is, when I was younger I use to call myself black and someone who wasnt corrected me and told me I was wrong for doing so. People shouldnt be afriad to step on some toes but if they took the steps to understand cultures and races it wouldnt even be a problem.

I honestly do believe that the media does want to promote separatism. Instead of saying an African-American male, they can just say the man or men. In the question, "Which would you rather be called? Caucasian American or White American? Black American or African American?", we spoke about how people like to refer to themselves by where their family originated from instead of by American. I belive many people get this notion from the media that they must do it because believe it or not, many people live and die by the televesion and what it preaches.

The media goes with the popular consensus. I don't think they're propogating anything, but African - American is particularly annoying. Is the person half African & half american? What if he's from Haiti or West Indies? What if he's white and his people come from Africa? Why assume every black person is associated with Africa - Which is a whole continent? Media doesn't call whites European - Americans...
