4WD Low was engaged on my 1999 Blazer, but whenever I try to switch into 2WD or 4WD the lights blink and it won't switch. What could be the cause?

The blinking lights are likely an error code. Suggest having a scanner hooked to the on board computer, or checking with your local dealer to find out what it's trying to tell you.

i tried switching in into neutral, then 3rd gear- lights still blinking... put it back into neutral- then 3rd, 2nd and 1rst- it worked. thanks for your help ; )

On my 97 Silverado 4X4, the transmission stopped shifting, had 1st and 4th only, and the tach & speedometer quit working. Then I couldn't switch into 4WD, light just blinked. Took it to a tranny shop and was told it was the computer and actuator. Had an electrical shop flash and install the computer only to be told the original computer was fine, too late, that the problem was in the wiring harness. Remember the old adage, start with the simple, and usually less expensive, things first.
