  • You asked for it: I picked you out Of a crowd and talked to you. Said I liked your shoes, You said, "Thanks, Can I follow you?" So it's up the stairs, And out of view. No prying eyes. I poured some wine. I asked your name; You asked the time. Now it's two o'clock. The club is closed, We are up the block. Your hands are on me, Pressing hard against your jeans, Your tongue in my mouth, Trying to keep the words from coming out, You didn't care to know Who else may have been you before. I want a lover I don't have to love, I want a girl who's too sad to give a fuck. Where's the kid with the chemicals? I thought he said to meet him here, But I'm not sure. I've got the money If you've got the time. He said, "It feels good." I said "I'll give it a try." Then my mind went dark, We both forgot where your car was parked. Let's just take the train. I'll meet up with the band in the morning Bad actors, with bad habits... Some sad singers, they just play tragic. And the phone is ringing, And the van is leaving Let's just keep touching, Let's just keep...keep singing I want a lover I don't have to love, I want a boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk. Where's the kid with the chemicals? I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full. I need some meaning I can memorize. The kind I have always seems to slip my mind. But you, but you... You write such pretty words, But life's no storybook. Love's an excuse to get hurt. And to hurt. Do you like to hurt? I do, I do. Then hurt me, Then hurt me, Then hurt me...-
  • I think it is a story about a boy who has taken everything to far. He became addicted to drugs and booze enough so that it consumed him and all he wanted was things that provided for him but he didn't have to provide back hence the "lover I dont have to love" and the "boy so drunk he doesn't have to talk" could mean he doesn't have to face feelings. I think the kid with the chemicals is the bartender or drug dealer. Even the girl he talks about he is taking in excess and barely giving but she isn't giving much either so she isn't the lover he doesn't have to love. This is just my take on the song...
  • I think this song is about a boy who's been a wreck (drugs/alcohol I'm guessing by the direct words used in teh song) and he maybe wants to get out of that rut, find someone that will love him honestly like in the movies and he can love back, but at the same time he doesn't want the responsibility of that love. He wants to change but he doesn't, it's too hard for him and he'll miss his old life too much. "I picked you out Of a crowd to talk to you Said I liked your shoes You said thanks can I follow you?" He finds someone, wants an honest talk with them, but all she wants is to go upstairs, not conversation. "So it's up the stairs And out of view No prying eyes I poured some wine I asked your name you asked the time" He takes her upstairs, gives her wine as a way to maybe romantisize her, asked her name but she doesn't seem too preoccupied on getting to know him, other than wanting to know what's in his pants. "Well it's two o'clock Yeah the club is closed we're up the block Your hands on me Pressing hard against your jeans Your tongue in my mouth Trying to keep the words from coming out You didn't care to know Who else may have been here before" She's pursuing him and showigng that she wants him, and he gives in to that feeling because he likes feeling wanted, even though in the back of his head he doesn't just wanted to be wanted physically. "I want a lover I don't have to love I want a girl who's to sad to give a fuck Where's the kid with the chemicals? I thought he said he'd meet us here but I'm not sure I got the money if you got the time He said it feels good I said I'll give it a try" This is basically the part where in his head he's giving up all the philosophy of ever finding real love. Just saying 'fuck it' to all that, he doesn't want to be in this girl's head anymore, just between her legs. He wants someone he can control and that he can make feel good physically, and wants her to do the same. He wants drugs again ("kid with the chemicals" being a drug dealer or someone who was supposed to pick up his drugs, I'm guessing) because like mentioned, he wants to feel good, and doesn't care about actually being loved now, because he's taken over by that pleasure that phsyical attention/addiction gives him. "Then my mind went dark We both forgot where your car was parked Let's just take the train I'll meet up with the band in the morning Bad actors with bad habits Some sad singers They just play tragic Now the phone's ringing And the band's leaving Let's just keep touching Let's just keep keep singing" He's still under the influence of this new attraction and of whatever drugs/alcohol he's on, decides to leave with the person he fooled around with, and uncaring of anything else. He just doesn't care about anything but feeling good. "I want a lover I don't have to love I want a boy who's so drunk he doesn't talk Where's the kid with the chemicals I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full I need some meaning I can memorize The kind I have always seems to slip my mind" The first three lines is already explained, but 'I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full' is again, the desiring of love and genuine care. Same for the next two lines. "But you but you You write such pretty words But life's no story book Love is an excuse to get hurt And to hurt Do you like to hurt? 'Cause I do I do I do This didn't hurt me Didn't hurt me Oh this hurt me" Very much in denial, he's sort of arguing with himself, almost like a "I don't need love, I just need drugs and orgasms, that's it that's itttt." But then he starts to contradict himself, almost like his real concience is yelling that he needs love, real love. "This didn't hurt me, didn't hurt me" to "Oh, this hurt me" is the moment where he finds himself in a better state of mind again, finally confessing that he DOES need love, and that throwing his life away does hurt him, no matter what he says.
