Why is it alright to show women being raped in movies and comics but you never see a man being sexually abused? It's not right and it promotes women being treated badly!

I don't think anyone being raped is "alright to show" but that is what the idiots in Hollywood and the entertainment industry put out and sadly rape happens so it is a part of life.

Men would protest if there was a film that depicted a man being abused sexually or raped. Can you imagine a guy being forced to fellate another guy with a gun to his head...the outcry you would hear.

Personally I don't think its alright to show such things in movies, therefore I do not look at such things. I believe its wrong but not to the point of censorship (as long as its fantasy, if it is real then the person running the camera should be prosecuted as an accomplice IMO). That is promotes abusing women is a possible argument, however, that assumes people are incapable of separating fantasy from reality. Though I find it disgusting (having had one good friend who had been raped), if it is not real I cannot say it should be banned.

As to why you see women being raped, etc. in various forms of media but rarely see the same with men, IMO it is simply the reality as I see it that there are more men who 'get off' on that sort of thing than there are women that find it arousing so the market is larger. I could be wrong but thats just my two cents.

The sexual abuse of boys is one of the most underreported issues in our society. I don't know why. We just don't seem to take it near as seriously as the sexual abuse of girls. The movies just reflect the ignorance of our society concerning that issue.

I don't think movies depicting rape promotes it. I think its simply an artistic, dramatic representation of a horrible thing. In fact I think its more likely to make people realise just how horrible rape is. Most people I watch rape scenes in movies with find it pretty horrific and hard to watch, especially if the scenes are pretty realistic and/or graphic. The film irreversible is a good example of this. The rape scene in that movie did not glorify it at all. I think most movies that depict rape encourage it no more than a movie depicting extreme violence promotes that.
