Have your catalytic converter checked. Clogging will cause exhaust to build and engine cannot breathe and if bad enough you can floor it and barely move. Mr. Bill

Does the odor smell like rotten eggs? How many miles on the truck and has a mechanic every checked the catalytic coverter? Investigate the problem and have it repaired. It can ruin your engine and the fumes can be harmful.

we got the converter fixed, it still did the same problems. we are in the process of changing the fuel filter and hoping that is it?

you have several problems..overheating sensors, and co, carbon monoxide leaking into your cab... which can kill you

maybe the modual computer for the engine

Any time exhaust is getting into the cab(especially at highway speed) its a faulty exhaust system. The check engine light is most likely due to excessive crankcase pressure. If the maintance schedule has been sparse I suggest checking the EGR and PCV valves. Generally when an exhaust system is let go for that log without Maintance(long enough to plug the converter) the engine has quite a few miles on it leading to blowby which will plug the previously mentioned valves. The fuel filter is probably not the problem But its not a bad idea to change it as well. The oxygen sensor can also be the culprit as it sends information to the mixture control module within the main computer. This would explain the rich fuel smell in the exhaust. Last but not least if you have small children AVOID idling for long periods of time(McD's dirve thru) until you resolve the issue(s) as carbonmonoxide is deadly. good luck I hope ive been abl to help.
